“Let us love not only in word but in deed and truth”
Bosco Boys Home based in Borivali marked Young at Risk (YaR) Day on November 19 by organizing a gathering entitled “Caring for the Earth-Our Common Home” at Don Bosco School hall in Borivali to make the young children on the streets feel loved and to instill in them love for mother earth.
At the registration desk the youngsters were given coupons for games and meals. They were served breakfast and were directed to the hall for the inauguration ceremony. The compere for the event Mrs. Rolin Furtado welcomed the gathering and invited all to take part in the prayer service. Mr. Eustace Fernandes (Social Staff at BBH) gave a brief introduction about the day’s significance.Mr. Nandkishore More (Assistant Commissioner of Police), Mr. Dhanjay Lingade (Inspector of Police, MHB Police Station), Mrs. Zara Ujwala (Principal of Sheth Gopalji Seth Hemraj High School), Dr. Merlyn Mendis (Karuna Hospital, Borivali), Fr. Flovi D’Souza (Principal of Don Bosco High School, Borivali) and Fr. Gregory Almeida (YaR Coordinator of Mumbai Province) and Fr. Lloyd Rodrigues (Administrator of BBH) were invited to light the lamp. Thereafter, Cl. Mukesh Garasiya read a Bible passage and Fr. Solomon Rapol (Rector of BBH) spoke to the children and asked them, “to help someone or make someone smile.”
The boys from BBH presented aprayer dance on the song-‘Who am I?’ by Casting Crowns. The dignitaries were then felicitated. Also present was, Mr. Shreeram Ghodke(Police Officer, MHB Police station).
After the prayer service, Fr. Richard Burkhao, Principal of Bosco Boys Training Institute, Borivali declared the game stalls open. There were stalls for games, Mehendi and Nail art, Technical display, Control stall, Gift stall and Theme stall that had posters focusing on the theme. The youngsters enjoyed playing the unique and funny games. While the games were being played on the football ground, the drawing and poster making competitions as well as the 30 Seconds to fame contest were being conducted in the hall. 2 clowns and Mascots from Lighthouse World were present for the event who entertained the children throughout the programme.
The Bosco Boys presented a flash mob dance on a fusion of old and new tunes. The youngsters who had come for this event also joined the band of Bosco Boys and tapped their feet to the rhythm of the music. Thereafter, the game stalls were closed and the children were served lunch. Post Lunch the children were asked to assemble in the School hall for the cultural programme.
The programme witnessed the presence of Fr. Savio Silveira (Vice Provincial of Mumbai Province), Ms Pooja Dixit (Television Celebrity) and Kishan Agarwal (Poet). During the cultural programme group dance, groupsinging and solo singing competition were conducted. The youngsters sang and danced beautifully showcasing their talents.
The children from Shivaji Nagar (one of our outreach centres) presented a skit on the theme- Water, Hygiene and Health. The boys of Bosco Boys Home presented a Musical Drama to show how children in difficult situations were helped by Don Bosco Institutes. It was choreographed by Mrs. Mayuri Raj (Coordinator of Bosco Boys Home). The winners of the various competitions were announced and the prizes were distributed. Fr. Savio Silveira presented a token of appreciation to the judges of the various competitions. Thereafter, Mr. Ravi Jain (Bollywood singer, music director and lyricist) and Manmohan Jaiswal (Art curator and teacher) gave away the prizes to some of the winners. Mr. Ravi also sang a song for the children.
