The 13th YaR Annual National Seminar, “Building Resilience in Children”, was held at Seva Kendra, Kolkata on 12 and 13 September 2018. Counsellor/Psychologist and Founder Director of Muktha Foundation, Bangalore, and faculty member in the post graduate department of psychology at Jain University – Bangalore and Montfort College – Bangalore, Ms Ashwini N Vwas the resource person for the two-days event. The seminar focused on the cognitive, affective and behavioral components of resilience. The methodology used was participatory learning, case studies and group discussion. “Makeyourself resilient in order to develop resilience in children,” was a key message for everyone to take home.
The participants contributed to the sessions, sharing their personal experiencesin real-life engagement with children in a variety of situations.Fr Patrick expressed the sentiments of most participants when he said “the sessions were very enlightening keeping everyone engrossed; the resource person has outstanding communication skills – bringing alive real life situations and helping participants to connect to the lessons they contain”. Ms Piyali mentioned that the sessionsgave her a good understanding of the concept of resilience and showed her how to go about in cultivating and strengthening it in children.
Over 120 participants from around18 states across India participated in the Seminar which was inaugurated by His Grace Thomas D’Souza, the Archbishop of Kolkata and Fr Pauria, the Vice Provincial of the Salesian Province of Kolkata.
