The meeting of the Migrant’s desk kick started in Don Bosco Provincial House, Hyderabad on 19 February 2018. Representatives from across 8 cities are gathered here to assess the initiative together and plan the future course of action. The specific ministry for the migrants was initiated by Salesian Provincial Conference of India and the Salesian Family. DB YaR Forum was given the task to initiate the work for this poor and needy young people who are at risk. The Forum started the work by preparing a Framework of Action and piloted the work in 8 cities in 2016. During these 3 days meeting the Efforts were made to harvest the work of the year that went by and to evolve directions and strategies for the days to come.
Fr Andrews Raja SDB, professor in Department of Social Work at Sacred Heart College Tiruppatur guided the discussion from various perspective. Fr Andrews has grass root experience and expertise in the Migrant Workers sector.
Two days were set apart for sharing, discussing and to study comprehensive reports from each of the desks aggregating the experiences and learning. The draft report of the migrant survey conducted across 8 cities who are vulnerable was also studied with the assistance of experts. Taking into consideration the results of the survey and the experience on the field each city prepared a plan of action for the coming years. These exercises will help the Salesians and the Salesian Family to reflect together and float models in serving the most vulnerable of this modern era with scientific temper.
The directors from the cities along with the national team of DB YaR Forum met Fr. Thathi Reddy Vijaya Bhaskar, Provincial incharge of YaR and proposed their plans and shared their concerns that needs to be addressed by the Salesian Provincial Conference. The reports, findings, recommendations they arrive at will be shared with the Salesian Provincial Conference of South Asia (SPCSA) at its annual meeting at Kolkata in the last week of February.The meeting ended with a positive note to take forward this mission by starting more initiatives to assist the migrant young at risk.
