‘Caring for the Earth – Our Common Home’ was the theme for the INM-Province of Chennai YaR day which was celebrated for the first time at the province level at Don Bosco, Beatitudes, Vyasapadi premises on 26 November 2017. More than 500 children from six YaR centres of the province together with their directors participated actively in the days’ event.
Rev. Fr. Xavier Pakiam SDB, the economer of the province presided over the inaugural event and addressed the children with special emphasis on ‘air pollution and water scarcity’ being witnessed in the state and the county at large. It was followed by the guest performance of Mr. Balaji, cine artist who invited the children to contribute their share in caring for the mother earth.
Mime and Dance competitions were conducted for the YaR centres and children presented the unique best practices carried out in their respective YaR centres for awareness and imitation by other centres. Post-lunch, DBICA (Don Bosco Institute of Communication arts), the communication department of the province screened carefully chosen short films on the topic and raised awareness on the need to act immediately to save the earth. It was followed by Don Bosco Anbu Illam – HCL Gurukul students who explained their exhibits on “Save energy, save environment” inspiring their student friends to be active contributors in saving the earth from human exploitation.
Mr. George Muller, Project Manager, Bonn, Germany presided over the prize distribution ceremony and gave away prizes to the winners. Don Bosco Beatitudes, Vyasapadi emerged as the best performers of the day. On the whole it was a celebration to create awareness regarding the immediate need to care for the earth through numerous ways.
