On 14th November 2017, Don Bosco Snehalaya, celebrated Children’s Day by organizing a ‘Bal Mela’. The Mela was attended by 1200 children (boys and girls) from in and around Vadodara railway stations and bus depot, from the various slums of Vadodara and also from various NGO’s.
The theme for this year’s Mela was “Caring for the earth…our common home”
The day’s proceedings began with an inauguration ceremony which included the lighting of the lamp and a prayer dance. The chief guest for the inauguration was Mr. Rajiv Deveshwar (Medical Superintendent, S. S. G. Civil Hospital,Vadodara). After the inauguration, a session on the topic “Caring for the earth…our common home” was held for the elder children while a drawing competition was organised for younger ones, followed by games
There were 19 game stalls set up for the children to play and have a jolly time.All the children present were served lunch. After lunch, the stage was open for the children to display their skills and talents. Many children came forward and presented dances, sang songs, shared jokes, etc. followed by a Zumba dance session. All the children grooved to the Zumba beat.A chart making competition on the theme “Save the Earth” was organised for the Children. The best three charts were awarded prizes.In the evening at 6.15pm a cultural programme was presented by the Don Bosco Snehalaya boys.
The chief guest for the programme was Mr. Dhimant Bhatt (Chairperson, C.W.C, Vadodara). The program consisted of dances, songs and a skit. During the program a tribute was offered to the former Director Fr. Steve Rodrigues SDB, who passed away on 18th October 2017.
The children truly enjoyed themselves. And their joy could be seen on their faces as they left for their homes at the end of the day. This event was possible thanks to a large number of well‐ wishers, benefactors and volunteers who came forward to help us.
