Annual YaR National Awards

The Annual YaR National Awards ceremony was held at Don Bosco Institute, Guwahati, Assam on 20 September 2017, at the close of the YaR National Seminar on the theme of Restorative Justice and Children. The awards recognise and honour persons and institutions that exceled in the service for the Young at Risk during the year.

Fr. Gerard Majella SDB from Province of Chennai was recognized for his PhD degree and for securing the Dr Baba Saheb Ambedkar Humanitarian Award. Sr. Sangeeta from Province of Hyderabad was recognized for District level Best Service for Women in Distress, Tabitha Priyadarshini from Province of Hyderabad was

recognized for District level Best Social Worker and Santosh Kumar Padibandla from province of Hyderabad was recognized for district level – Balika Bandhu 2017 award.

Fr Genesis Wanniang from Province of Shillong was recognized for being the Member of District Child protection Committee under the Integrated Child Protection Society.

In Homelink awards: the Emerging Node award was won by DB Ashalayam, New Delhi. Outstanding Node award went to Bosco, Bangalore and Outstanding Hub award to Coimbatore.

Innovative project award was won by three Province namely Bangalore for "Mobile computer training program- Don Bosco Ajjanahalli , Karnataka", Chennai province for "Services to the Kayambedu Market Labourers" and Kolkata province for "Don Bosco in the service of human scavengers".

Fr. Lukose Cheruvalel was honoured with the Lifetime achievement award for his tireless contribution to the cause of the Young at Risk.

A hardworking and dedicated team working on the ground for the betterment of children. Recently made efforts to set up their documentation system. Willing to devote time and energy towards learning new methods and technology to make things simpler, easier, better. Implemented the Missing Children Bureau in 3 districts of Delhi.

Systematic in documentation and in utilizing reports for analysis and for planning interventions.. Share reports with government departments and play an active role in MCB Karnataka.

Inquisitive, willing to learn, hardworking, dedicated are a few of the characteristics of this Hub. The hub is on time with weekly and monthly reports. Has brought many lethargic nodes back to life.

Mobile Computer Training Program - Don Bosco Ajjanahalli, Karnataka: Bangalore Province
A well-equipped mobile computer van, runs 15 computers with a TV and coolers fully functioning on solar power. Reaches remote villages for the benefit of children and youth enabling them to acquire basic computer skills.

Service to Migrant Workers in the Kayambedu Market, Chennai : Chennai Province
Safe migration, Transit facilities, Negotiating for labour rights with contractors and companies, Advocacy with the Government on issues concerning labour, education, occupational health, ICDS, PDS, etc. for the migrants, Providing SSA mini-schools, Recreation, Integration of migrant children.

Don Bosco in the Service of Human Scavengers, Kolkata : Kolkata Province
500 families of Scavengers living in unhealthy environment, engaged in scavenging. The programme has motivated and enabled 400 children to give up scavenging and join regular school or undergo skill training, thus building a healthier, brighter future for them.

Young at Risk Life-Time Achievement Award: Fr Lukose Cheruvalel
A humble and simple person who has love for the poor. A visionary whose dedication and hard work has helped him scale the heights. The founder and till October 2015, the Director of Snehalaya Child Rights Centres, Guwahati. Chairperson of CWC, Kamrup Metro from 2012 to 2015. Has won several awards while working for children’s rights, including the Social Work Excellence Award 2016 by the University of Science and Technology, Meghalaya, and the Netaji Smarak Garima Award 2014.

He currently is he Snehalaya principal trustee and member, Advisor – Child Friendly Guwahati, Member and Advisor - North East NGO’s Network
